Sony Interactive Entertainment and Amazon have announced a live-action God of War TV series is coming, after months of rumors.

The new live-action God of War TV series (via Variety) is being helmed by Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins, and will be based on the 2018 reboot of Sony’s action-adventure series. Iron Man and Children of Men writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will also be writing the series, and executive producing alongside Judkins as showrunner.

Sony Santa Monica Studio creative director Cory Barlog will also serve as executive producer, alongside Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee, and Playstation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Santa Monica Studio’s Jeff Ketcham is also co-executive producer.

Furthermore, the God of War TV series is a co-production between Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television, in association with PlayStation Productions.

“We are so proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series,” Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, said.“ Rafe, Mark and Hawk are crafting a transportive series that charts a path through the ancient mythological journey of Kratos.”

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, added: “’God of War’ is one of PlayStation’s most awarded video games, so we’re excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios to bring our beloved franchise to fans and new audiences in a bold and authentic way.”

The new sequel, God of War Ragnarok, is now available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
