Several Genshin Impact Character Alternate Outfits are Coming

Genshin Impact Character Alternate Outfits

MiHoYo have announced that four Genshin Impact character alternate outfits are coming in a future update, bringing potential changes to several main ladies.

The Genshin Impact character alternate outfits in question are for Jean, Amber, Rosaria, and Mona. No further details were announced regarding how these outfits will be implemented or when. The announcement notes that the characters’ original outfits will remain as well.

The new Jean, Amber, Rosaria, and Mona outfits are relatively minor changes. Fans quickly noted that the largest changes included covering up cleavage or deemphasizing Rosaria and Mona’s skin-tight bodysuits. Common speculation among the community is that these changes could be to appease the Chinese government and their increasing crackdown on character designs in games.

This speculation is accompanied by rumors that the alternate outfits will be mandatory in the Chinese version. Based on the English version of the announcement, however, it sounds like they will merely be optional skins. Regardless, this has led to fears among the Genshin Impact community that future character designs will be safer and more toned down.

This isn’t the first time miHoYo have been accused of censoring character designs to appease the Chinese government. Rosaria received a noticeable breast size reduction in the past.

Genshin Impact has received several new costumes for characters since its release. Jean and Barbara got summer themed outfits in 1.6, and Keqing and Ningguang are getting them in the new update. In both of these cases one of the outfits was a free reward, while the other was a premium purchase.

Genshin Impact is available and free-to-play on Windows PC (via the Epic Games Store and official website), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and coming soon to Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our review here (we recommend it!)
