Funimation is shutting down this year

Funimation has announced that they will be shutting down their services later this year as part of their ultimate merger with Crunchyroll.

Back in 2020, Sony and Funimation acquired Crunchyroll. This put the two major anime streaming sites under one umbrella. Then in 2022 Sony made the decision to merge both platforms together under Crunchyroll’s brand identity.

Now, after having been announced for two years and combining their libraries, Funimation is finally shutting down its services on April 2, 2024.

As part of Crunchyroll’s unification of fan services announced in March 2022, the Funimation app and website will sunset on April 2, 2024.

Rest assured, this transition will not impact your access to the vast library of anime available on Crunchyroll. We remain committed to delivering the best anime streaming experience and will continue to expand our offerings to cater to your diverse interests!

Funimation subscribers who also have a Crunchyroll account will be able to merge accounts, provided that they both use the same e-mail address.

With Crunchyroll taking over the mainstream anime space, it falls on companies like Sentai Filmworks to pick up fan favorite series on HIDIVE.
