FTC files injunction blocking Microsoft’s attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard

Now the UK’s CMA is no longer the only regulatory body who has placed a block on Microsoft’s attempted blockbuster acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Now the United States’ FTC has filed an injunction preventing the merger from going through until after it has been heard in court.

Because of this, Microsoft “cannot complete the acquisition until after 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the fifth business day after the Court rules on the FTC’s request for a preliminary injunction or a date set by the court (whichever is later)” as reported on via The Verge.

The hearing for the preliminary injunction is set for June 22nd and 23rd. Which will greatly put a damper on the companies attempt to merge together with their looming deadline of July 18th approaching.

This injunction is no surprise given that the FTC has already set a lawsuit on their attempts to block the acquisition. As stated before, they join the CMA as the other regulatory body who has gone against the acquisition.

Meanwhile other countries, such as Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and even the EU have approved of this merger. To no one’s surprise, Microsoft will also be making their case against the FTC as they have already begun work on countering the CMA as well.
