Five Nights at Freddy’s movie adds Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson to cast

Five Nights at Freddy's movie

Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s movie shows the franchise continues to grow. Now we’ve learned the film adaptation may have found its stars.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has added (via Deadline) Matthew Lillard (Scream, Thirteen Ghosts, Scooby-Doo) and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Tragedy Girls) to its main cast.

Lillard will play William Afton and Hutcherson will play Mike Schmidt alongside previously confirmed roles with Piper Rubio as Abby – Mike’s little sister – and Mary Stuart Masterson as an unnamed female villain.

Going by the cast thus far, it’s easy to predict Lillard, Hutcherson, and Rubio will be the main protagonists struggling to survive a murderous night at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

“A troubled security guard begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through,” the film’s synopsis reads.

Filming is set to finally begin next February in New Orleans, after years of pre-production issues. Blumhouse Productions and Striker Entertainment are co-producing the film with Emma Tammi as director and Russel Binder as executive producer.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie screenplay was penned by series creator Scott Cawthon, Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is handling the real life animatronic monsters that will likely be nightmare fuel.

The game series, Five Nights at Freddy’s, is a horror experience where the player must – as the name suggests – survive the titular five nights at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. It’s like staying overnight at Chuck E. Cheese but all the animatronics come to life and try to murder you.
