First Nintendo Switch Live Gameplay Shown During Tonight Show

On last night’s episode of the Tonight Show, Nintendo surprised viewers with the first look at the Nintendo Switch.

While Nintendo’s presence at last night’s episode was originally reported to be promoting Super Mario Run, CEO Reggie Fils-Amie also surprised host Jimmy Fallon with a demo of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on the Switch. The actual gameplay starts around the 6:00 mark.

Not only is this the first game shown running live on the Nintendo Switch, but it’s also the first time we’ve seen the system since its October reveal.

The next time we’ll see the Nintendo Switch is January 13th, when Nintendo finally reveals the specifications, pricing, and more at an event in Japan.

Jimmy Fallon is such a child to the point of cringe. Still, glad that Nintendo used the opportunity to show off the Switch. They should allow developers to talk about their games in the recent future.

The framerate looks smooth compared to the game awards footage both on the screen and as a portable. There was lightning bolts and a lot more blades of grass though from the awards show.

It doesn’t seem too terrible as far as framerate dips are concerned, even in tablet mode, but I’d like to see some direct feed footage.

The thing is that it’s fake. His show is basically a platform to advertise new tech among other things, so when he seems surprised or shocked it comes off to me as overacting.

I don’t get the comparisons to a tablet. Tablets don’t require controller parts. We don’t even know that the screen is touchscreen. Its literally just a handheld with detachable controller parts and a screen that you can connect to a TV.

I’m leaning on the “Meh” side of the whole video. Mario Run looks to play like just any other running game on mobile for the most part. On the Switch, at least they’re advertising it right this time around, but there’s still more questions that’s yet to be answered on the system itself like the battery life and such.

  36. Immahnoob
    Immahnoob
    December 8, 2016 at 3:24 pm

You’re right, it’s even worse. If it doesn’t even feature touchscreen, it’s a “handheld” with a shitty design. They might as well make it a phone.

Off the top of my head, the gamepad is required for certain 3D World levels and you basically need it by your side all the time for Xenoblade. I haven’t played it, but #FE does it as well apparently. There’s also the fact that Nintendo never bothered to patch the system settings menu to let you use a pro controller.

I wonder if they’ll talk about region lock and account system on JAN12 or if customers will find out after they buy the system in march.
From what I heard the WiiU controller battery life with the standard battery was about 4 hours, so Switch is probably gonna be less than that. Seems troubling for a portable system (the gimmick this time)

People at the nintendo circles seem to be loving the Switch, to me there are so many doubts and questions it’s hard to have any expectation.

With Conan a lot of it is more self-aware, or making fun of how ridiculous things seem, obviously mostly from a non-gamer’s perspective. A lot of it does end up being things we even joke about though.

Allegedly its just something his fans wanted, and it just turned into a semi-regular part of the show.
