This week’s Famitsu (via Hachima Kikou) has shared new details regarding the weapon triangle system, which is returning in Fire Emblem If.
The iconic system has been used in the Fire Emblem series since 1996, however now we’re seeing it finally get a revamp. Instead of the usual swords > axes > lances, it’s now sword and magic > axe and bow > lances and concealed weapons. If you’re unfamiliar with the system, it’s a triangular system of balance, with no one weapon being the definitive winner in battle.
We also know that weapons no longer have durability in the game, however this changes things up as the stronger the weapon against an opponent, the greater its disadvantages will be for that particular unit. Let’s say that a sword has more attack but a debuff to your evasion, making it harder to do a pursuit attack – you can expect more things like this. Staves are the only weapon to restrict the number of times they can be used.
The following characters were confirmed for the game:
- Felicia (voice by Nozomi Sasaki) – maid.
- Joker (voice by Junichi Suwabe) – butler.
- Gunther (voice by Rokuro Naya) – great butler.
- Suzukaze (voice by Daisuke Ono) – ninja
- Saizou (voice by Tarusuke Shingaki) – ninja
- Kagerou (voice by Rie Murakawa) – ninja
Felicia, Joker, Gunther, and Suzukaze are all close allies in the White Night Kingdom and Dark Night Kingdom versions of Fire Emblem If. However, Saizou and Kagerou are known allies only in the White Night Kingdom version. It’s worth mentioning the maids, butlers, and ninja all use concealed weapons, which enable them to weaken their enemies abilities when struck.
Fire Emblem If is coming to the Nintendo 3DS on June 25th in Japan, and some time next year in both North America and Europe.
