After over two decades of work, the director for the famous XCOM series and recently launched Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Jake Solomon, will be leaving the Firaxis.

Along with his departure is also studio head Steve Martin who had been with the company for 25 years. Heather Hazen is replacing Martin as studio head and will oversee their current titles, as well as the newly announced Civilization sequel.

This comes after the launch of the aforementioned Marvel’s Midnight Suns where it reportedly did not reach sales expectations. Early user reviews were also mixed, but thing did improve as time passed.

However despite the last game’s struggles, 2K does claim this departure is “on good terms”, in their statement (via VGC).

“Jake Solomon is leaving Firaxis Games on good terms after more than two decades at the studio,” the developer said. “We are proud of what the team achieved with Marvel’s Midnight Suns, which was well-received by critics, Marvel fans and tactics players alike”.

The gaming industry has seen multiple changeups now in leadership positions held by those with decades of experience. Within the last year, Halo Infinite developers 343 Industries lost their multiplayer director and studio head.

Rocksteady, the developers behind the recently released Gotham Knights and upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, also saw their co-founders departing at the end of last year.
