It seems like Square Enix’s massively popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is going to get a mobile adaptation of some kind, although it’ll likely only launch in China.
The popular massively-multiplayer-online-RPG from Square Enix was approved for release in China as Final Fantasy 14: Crystal World by the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) this morning.
For those unaware, the Chinese government has to approve any media sold within the country, while also imposing strict regulations to boot.
It’s also worth noting the mobile port developer is listed as Beijing Borun Zhijia Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of game publishing giant Tencent.
Way back in 2018 Square Enix entered into a “strategic alliance” with Tencent Games, though nothing has come from the partnership since – until now.
A previous rumor by Exputer claimed that a smartphone port for Final Fantasy XIV was coming, and that is was being co-developed by Square Enix and Tencent.
As with any rumor – and the above approval – take this with a grain of salt until we get official word from Square Enix or Tencent.
