Square Enix has confirmed that the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t going to use their flagship Luminous Engine.
The news was confirmed during a Gamescom 2015 interview with Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata. “Final Fantasy VII (Remake) is not planned to be made with that [Luminous Engine],” Tabata told Nova Crystallis.
This is certainly interesting, considering the latest numbered entry in the series, Final Fantasy XV, is going to use the Luminous Engine. Kingdom Hearts III was originally set to use the engine, but got swapped out to Unreal Engine 4 in mid-development.
We’ll keep you guys posted.
