Final Fantasy 14 singer faces backlash over anti-trans social media likes

Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy 14 vocalist Susan Calloway has deleted her Twitter after being banned from a convention following backlash over posts she allegedly liked on the Twitter/X platform.

According to a callout post, Calloway allegedly liked tweets commenting on accounts such as Libs of TikTok and followed right-wing pundits like Ben Shapiro. Niche Gamer was unable to independently verify the claims due to her account being deactivated at the time of writing.

As a result of the backlash, Calloway was removed as a speaker from the upcoming KupoCon Final Fantasy convention. The official account for KupoCon had this to say:

Today has been a troubling day for the Final Fantasy community. In light of recent events, we announce that Susan Calloway will no longer be attending our upcoming event in Toronto. We will do our utmost to secure another guest in time for Pom East, but it may be difficult due to the time constraints. We urge the KupoCon community to prioritize kindness during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to thoroughly investigate this matter.

Calloway is best known as the voice in the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn song “Answers” which kicked off the game’s renewed 2.0 success; she also performed other songs found within the game. You can find the cutscene featuring the song “Answers” below.

Calloway is still expected to perform at the upcoming Distant Worlds concert this upcoming January.
