FIFA 23 will have no Russian teams due to Ukraine war

FIFA 23

Earlier this year, Electronic Arts revealed FIFA 23 is the last title that they will be licensed to work on after losing the FIFA license. The game will have many new features that fans have been asking for including Female clubs.

However, one team that will be missing from FIFA 23 will be the Russian FIFA teams, including the Russian National Team and the Russian club teams. In a new statement (via Eurogamer), Electonic Arts said the following:

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine. In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not include the Russian National team or Russian Clubs in FIFA 23.”

FIFA and the UEFA announced that Russia would be banned from their organizations on February 28, 2022, four days after Russia’s military invasion into Ukraine. As a response to the invasion, EA Sports removed the Russian teams from FIFA 22 in line with the wishes of the FIFA and UEFA organizations decisions.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, EA has removed Russian and Belarusian teams from its own esports leagues and removed their ability to buy games and digital content.

Electronic Arts is not alone in taking action against Russia in the wake of its war, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Epic Games, Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard halted sales in Russia, and CD Projekt RED are among others who have also taken action against the country.

We will update as we become aware of new information.
