Falcom will announce final Trails game for 50th anniversary

Final Trails game

The latest Famitsu magazine has a lengthy interview from Japanese developer Falcom, in which the studio reveals the final Trails game is coming in celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary.

The new interview was conducted in celebration of Falcom’s 45th anniversary this year as they were founded by Masayuki Kato back in March of 1981.

Leaks from the print magazine have confirmed this means the final Trails game won’t even be announced until 2031 and will then be released the following year in 2032.

Here’s a rundown on all the details leaked (via ryokutya2089) from the latest issue of Famitsu:

  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter – Recording for the theme song “Silver Will, Golden Wings” has been completed
  • Kyoto Xanadu – While the 2D action received both positive and negative reactions, the game itself is solidly fun. Difficulty has 4 levels. Kyoto was chosen because it represents Japan as an iconic location
  • Previously announced new Ys game – Work on the new title has just begun. Adol might become the oldest protagonist yet.
  • The Trails Series – We aim to announce the final installment within Falcom’s 50th anniversary year, and conclude the series in its 51st year. The plot for Trails of Cold Steel II is complete, and the series’ conclusion has been decided. We also have a clear vision for the protagonist’s profession in the final installment.
  • Dragon Slayer 45th Anniversary Title – Whether it’s a new title or a remake, and indeed whether it’s even in development—please wait for further announcements.
