Ex-God of War and Star Wars Jedi boss Stig Asmussen launches new studio Giant Skull

Giant Skull

Star Wars Jedi and God of War III director Stig Asmussen has announced the establishment of Giant Skull, a new AAA game developer focused on creating new narrative-focused single-player games.

Asmussen left Respawn Entertainment back in 2023 to pursue other things – this is his new gig alongside other key veteran staff from both Respawn Entertainment and other studios.

His new team at Giant Skull is already working on their first major game, in Unreal Engine 5, which will also be a single-player action-adventure game.

Further details weren’t shared – however their newly launched website has a cryptic reel of video clips running in the background and an actually-functional command interface for a menu. It reportedly responds to over 100 specific commands.

“The Giant Skull studio culture is founded on creativity and curiosity,” said Asmussen, who fills the CEO role at Giant Skull. “We have assembled a talented team renowned for immersive storytelling, heroic combat, and exhilarating traversal, and our goal is to craft a rich universe that players will want to lose themselves in for years to come.”

Former Rocksteady Studios boss Anthony Scott (who acts as an unconfirmed executive role) added, “We want players to join us on every step of this amazing journey, as we pave the way for our upcoming game,” said Scott. “We’re creating something special and have been fortunate enough to assemble an incredible initial team of developers who are extremely passionate and experienced in creating genre-defining, third-person action-adventures.”
