Elves are taking over anime according to latest data

The appearance of elves in anime has more than doubled in recent years and it’s not hard to see why.

The popularity of both isekai and traditional fantasy genres has seen elves explode in popularity, according to a recent chart documenting elf main characters, they’ve more than doubled since the early 2010s.

You can check out the data for yourself below, you can see a period where elf-eared characters were popular in the 90s followed by a dip in the mid 2000s when slice-of-life was getting more popular.

Characters such as Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Marcille from Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi), and even Elfuda from Plus-Sized Elf are contributing to this growing demographic of elves in anime.

Elves are even appearing in slice of life series with fantasy elements such as the recent series Otaku Elf.
