Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has announced plans to launch a new gaming company. This company will be AI-based and will be operated by xAI, an AI arts company started by Musk last year.
The surprise announcement came in response to a post from Shibetoshi Nakamoto, the maker of Dogecoin. Shibetoshi posted a message on X, saying: “I don’t understand how game developers and game journalism got so ideologically captured…gamers have always been trolls, anti-greedy corporations, anti-bs…gamers have always rejected dumb manipulative bs, and can tell when someone is an outside poser…why lean into the bs? Best games I’ve played over the last 10 years have all been indy games besides skyrim and fallout 4…i love indy games.”
To which Elon Musk replied with: “Too many game studios that are owned by massive corporations. @xAI is going to start an AI game studio to make games great again!”
Musk’s announcement was greeted with both celebration and criticism from all across the gaming world spectrum. Composer Marty O’Donnell offered to compose music for the new game studio. On the other hand, game dev project Redot proposed that a better use of money would be starting an initiative to support indie game developers, and gaming director Gemma Cooper compared the initiative to the failed push for NFT’s a few years ago.
