Legendary game composer Yuzo Koshiro has given us another look at the cancelled Streets of Rage 4 (via SegaBits), for the Sega Dreamcast.

Both images were posted over on his personal Twitter account, dating back to 1999. While the first image (featured above) shows off the four proposed main character designs, the second image (featured below) depicts some combos planned for the game.

Burn is the son of Axel (one of the former series’ protagonists), and Erie is simply described as a “shinobi.”

Koshiro was going to compose the music for Streets of Rage 4, as he did in previous games. It’s certainly interesting to see the concept art, in comparison to the demo footage which leaked online in 2011.

Kind of wonder if the guy on the far right is supposed to be Skate grown up.

This breaks my heart . . . not necessarily because I feel the need to play a new Streets of Rage . . . but beacuse Yuzo Koshiro’s soundtracks for Streets of Rage 1 & 2 are among my favorite OSTs of all time. If missing out on this game means missing out on fresh Koshiro tracks in the same style, then that’s knowledge that I wish I didn’t have.

Meh. Was always more of a Final Fight or Double Dragon guy myself. =)

Loved SoR. That beat em up had an unrivaled soundtrack at the time. Seriously look up the theme song Tupac mix on youtube. I wonder if Blaze is Burn’s mom. Would make sense given the name gimmick.

yeah, I was about to say that’s what I thought he looked like.

Granted these days I can’t see skate and not associate him with Hoopz Barkley but still.

Erie looks a bit like Blaze. I wonder if she would end up as her kid.

A great pity this was never released.
Sega should work on this IP again, interested to see HD beat-em-up games today, perhaps with various fighting game mechanics. Would that work?

As usual SEGA is sitting on some great IPs. I’m glad we’re at least getting some great beat-em-up games like Dragon’s Crown and Zombie Vikings.

Sega needs to make SOR4 a reality instead of just hiding it, maybe it could help sega financial issues.
