Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires PC Version and Release Date are Confirmed

dynasty warriors 8 empires 10-30-14-2

Koei Tecmo has announced both the release date and PC version for Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires.

The enhanced version of the musou original is launching across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 (digital-only), and PC via the Steam client on January 27th in North America and on January 30th in Europe.

Like the majority of the Warriors games, Empires features a war-torn depiction of ancient China, although it switches things up a bit by offering 83 characters, or completely original player-generated characters. You can also fully customize your banners, horses, and the “regular” military officers.

With Empire mode, players can choose from many different roles through which they’ll experience a take on ancient Chinese history. Koei Tecmo is promising varying outcomes through a “different methodology of warfare.” You’ll see returning historical figures like Lu Bu, the “egotistical warrior who moves from one betrayal to another in search of his own glory,” and Liu Bei, the “provincial ruler forced to wander the land in search of a home.”

The PS3 version is digital only? Great, another game removed from my wish list …

It’s almost as if the PS3 was being treated like a last gen console or something…

DW7 Empires was digital-only in North America, so I kinda see this as par for the course.

Now, if even Eurobros are getting shafted from a physical release, well…

Don’t be condescending. Last-gen consoles are still very much alive and it’s not like the Warriors’ series are AAA titles. You’d think they’d want to try and maximise their audience.

Ah, I wasn’t aware about DW7: Empires in North America.

I was looking on Amazon last night for a PS3 physical copy of Samurai Warriors 4 and couldn’t find one, so I assume it’s the same for DW8: Empires. Even in Europe, unfortunately.

A good number of Warriors games have been digital only for localized release. I imagine those show a high enough number to KT to outweigh the loss of disc buyers and the problems that come with physical distribution (i.e. getting shelf space, handling leftover stock, printing and distro costs).

    Maximize profits, minimize risks.

Basically, to mirror what the dude above said, a lot of PS3 Warriors games received DDL-only releases in North America. Which is funny, because Ken’s Rage 2 and Warriors Orochi 3 received physical releases for the 360, and the Wii U got a slightly updated WO3 physical release.

But yeah, this is the first I’ve heard that Eurobros are getting shafted on the PS3 physical Warriors release front.
