New gameplay for cancelled DOOM 4 prototype revealed

If you have ever wondered what DOOM 4 originally looked like back in the early stages of its development, then you are in luck.

Youtuber NoClip has posted an extensive video documentary on the development of DOOM 4, as well as the early stages of the development of DOOM 2016.

First announced in 2008, DOOM 4 was eventually scrapped and restarted as DOOM 2016 because the project was not what the developers has intended it to be.

In an interview with IGN Unfiltered, id Software Executive Producer Marty Stratton stated that while it was a good game, it was “more ‘DOOM’ in name than really anything. Originally, DOOM 4 had aimed for a more cinematic experience, having taken inspiration from games like Call of Duty,

The team realized this was not a good fit for the traditionally action-oriented franchise and shifted their focus towards the classic shooter feeling of the originals to great results.
