Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny Character Trailer Could Mean Game will be Uncensored

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny

The latest trailer for Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny may have revealed that prior concerns of a character being censored are unfounded, with uncensored art and gameplay.

The new trailers themselves focus on the main characters. Along with the aforementioned zombie Zed, we see his little sister Bieko, animal companion Cerberus, princess Melodia, the King of the Human World Misedor, the Prism Ranger Piyori Nijino, magical girl Majolene, and Overlord Ivar.

We also hear the game’s English dub. These include Brandin Winckler (Zed), Michelle Marie (Bieko), Jason Marnocha (Cerberus), Kelly Baskin (Melodia), SungWon Cho (Misedor), and Cristina Valenzuela (Majolene).

You can find the English and Japanese trailers below.

As previously reported, the Netherworlds across the multiverse are being destroyed by the God of Destruction; a being that appears without rhyme or reason and devastates all in its wake. Yet, a young zombie boy called Zed waltzes into the Darkest Assembly, and claims to have defeated it. While Overlord Ivar doubts his capabilities, the secret may lie in Super Reincarnation.

In case you missed it, we looked into claims if the game would be censored in the west; mainly due to the suspicious omission of a busty female character- Melodia- from an English trailer. While our findings based purely on the information available provided no concrete answer, strong arguments could be made for at least that character’s cleavage being censored.

A later trailer showed character art of Melodia, but with a blur over her chest. While it seemed all but confirmed that at least that character was censored, the latest English trailer shows Melodia with her character art and in-game model unaltered, with deep cleavage intact.

We speculated in earlier reports that the censorship seen in prior trailers may have been NISA’s attempts to avoid the videos being restricted on YouTube. Why this has suddenly changed is unknown, and may indicate a change in policy for either promotion or what will be in the final western version of the game.

Curiously, the new trailer still features some censored character art, and obscures Melodia’s chest with text. This can be seen in the thumbnail and 3:32, and 3:39). This could be a case of using older assets before deciding to show the character uncensored was made. The gameplay footage shown is also the Japanese version.

Melodia also now appears on the official website, with uncensored artwork. The Limited Edition pre-order page still features light reflections right across her chest on a poster.

We will keep you informed as we learn more.

You can find the full rundown (via the official website) below.
