Debut Trailer for Shin Hayarigami 2 Reveals Similarities to The Grudge

Nippon Ichi Software has shared the debut trailer for Shin Hayarigami 2.

Featured above, you can view the first trailer for their upcoming horror-adventure game, which is set for a release across PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita.

The above trailer goes over the game’s urban folklore oriented story – its somewhat reminiscent of the sort of horror / investigative story from classic Japanese horror films like Ju-On: The Grudge. You also get a look at its characters, gameplay mechanics, and more.

Shin Hayarigami 2 is launching across the aforementioned three platforms on July 7th in Japan.

I like what I see, it reminds me a bit of danganronpa but with a more realistic setting

It works like a mystery/thriller VN where you need to resolve cases by searching evidences and find out if the urban myths are getting true.

In the first Shin Hayarigami game, you could choose to consider whatever case between either as “normal” (your everyday nutjob criminal case) or as “supernatural” (if the paranormal is really present), which would lead to different paths and would get you game overs if your guess was off. A more japanese and gruesome “Scooby-Doo” setting somewhat.

Also hoping the game is still getting a CERO Z rating in Japan (to avoid censorship) even if that rating tends to lead to less profits.

So this is the 2nd, where’s the first? NISA brought over last rebellion and the DS version of disgaea so apparently they’ll do anything if it’s within the company.

“So this is the 2nd, where’s the first?”

Probably still in Japan, man. This one hasn’t been announced for localization either.

Looks nice, half-surprised there’s PS3 support. I wonder how violent it can get or if it’s all in the atmosphere.

Hayarigami never got a western release even when the 3 games were published on the PSP (less gory than the Vita/PS3 games because of the CERO Z rating that didnt exist back then).

I dont really expect it to be considering you need to be knowledgeable in japanese urban myths in order to play it.

It’s actually pretty gruesome, mostly thanks to the CERO Z rating (equivalent of adult rating in the West) that allow that kind of portrayal without being censored in Japan. (which is honestly kind of silly considering mangas can show that stuff without trouble, but then again censorship laws make no sense)

Would it be fair to say it’s a bit like Phoenix Wright? It definitely sounds like an interesting game.

I appreciate the clarification. Gotta love what manga can show and do, especially in certain dōjinshi.
