Daedalic Entertainment distances itself from Sweet Baby Inc over Capes

Capes

A Community Strategist from Daedalic Entertainment distanced itself from Sweet Baby Inc following criticism of the company’s newest game Capes.

In a recent post on the Steam community discussion (Archive link) for Capes, Penta, part of publisher Daedalic Entertainment clarified the company’s position on Sweet Baby Inc. For those who don’t know, Sweet Baby Inc is a narrative consultant company that became infamous earlier this year after starting a harassment campaign against a Steam Curator that noted the company’s involvement.

In the recent post, Penta addresses the frustrations of players says that their collaboration with Sweet Baby was back in 2022, and knowing what they know now they would likely have made a different decision saying:

– “Why did you still work together with them after all they said?”
The Devs collaborated with SBI in early 2022. We are aware of the statements being done by individuals connected to SBI in the years to come – but in 2022 there was no sign of that – it is likely that the decision would have been a different one in 2024.

Going further, he explains that Daedalic is committed to providing entertainment for “everyone”. They validate the grievances of players but go on to explain that the discourse surrounding Capes could be harmful to the game’s success, whether their rebuke of Sweet Baby Inc. will satisfy gamers or not will have to be seen.

– “You have to learn that…”
As a company bringing games to an international audience, we take the term inclusivity and equality literal. We don’t condone hate towards any type of group. This includes – among POC, LGBTQ+ and others – white male gamers, aswell. It is sad that we have to actually word it out – it should be a given – we are ALL gamers, no matter who we are. If a diverse cast of heroes makes you not want to play Capes, thats your decision – but we are surely not “the enemy” – at least we don’t see “you” as one for making this decision.
But at the moment some – not all – of you are actively trying to harm a small indie Dev Studio – to teach them a lesson, that they never really needed to learn.

Capes is available now on Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
