Following the failure of both LawBreakers and Radical Heights, Cliff Bleszinski’s independent studio Boss Key Productions closed its doors. Now, the main man behind the studio and its games, Cliffy B, has seemingly sworn off game development altogether.
The news comes via Cliff’s own Twitter, where the industry veteran responded to a disgruntled fan.
“I paid my employees, their 401ks, and their health care – even months after the studio folded. So they could care for their families,” Cliff said. “I didn’t take a salary myself for two years. I get you’re sad, but god, this kinda shit is another reason I am NEVER making another game.”
The fan in question was asking for a refund for the money they put into LawBreakers, saying they stuck with him and Boss Key Productions solely to keep up with the content released in game.
A follow up tweet from a former developer at Boss Key Productions claimed he stopped receiving severance pay after three weeks, to which Cliff admitted “Maybe I used hyperbole. But I’d like to think I did the right thing.”
This isn’t the first time Cliff swore off video game development – he did the same back in 2012 when he left Epic Games. It’s very possible he’ll return to game development later.
