Fan translations for Japanese games have gotten more popular with an increasingly connected internet and better connections around the world. The latest game to finally be translated is CRW: Metal Jacket, a PC-98 game that features XCOM-like tactical battling game featuring mecha and their respective pilots.

The game was translated by fan group 46 OkuMen, who previously translated the Japan-only sequel to E.V.O. Search for Eden, the game E.V.O.: The Theory of Evolution. Featured above, you can view a trailer showcasing the game’s finished English build, which got released to the public on July 1.

Originally released for PC-98 and DOS back in 1994, the game was later localized for China and Korea, only to be re-released on the original PlayStation as CRW: Counter Rebellion War.

The translation was originally mean to be a “quick weekend project,” however it quickly grew in scale due to the game having “many quirks about it that slowed down its progress significantly.” One of these setbacks was finding out many of the game’s interface being images, not text, forcing the team to get used to using the aged .UGD format.
