Chucklefish originally teased Witchbrook as something like “Stardew Valley meets Harry Potter,” but as the developer has continued working, they’re still trying to figure out how to properly add magic to a life simulation RPG. Now, they’ve shared a look into the designs behind the game.
Chucklefish CEO and founder Finn Bryce has shared the design document their team has been using while crafting the game.
The above design doc gives more insight into what to expect for the game – and it definitely sounds like a magical spin on Stardew Valley.
Chucklefish describes the game as an isometric RPG where you’re an ordinary student at an extraordinary school – for magic. All of your teachers and fellow students have their own daily routines that parallel the day/night cycle. As you progress, you can build relationships with others.
The relationships and potential romance you can experience largely follows the mechanics long-established by Harvest Moon, however instead of farming you’ll be doing quests and obtaining new spells. Your final goal is to pass the final exam by making use of all your spells.
Witchbrook still has no release window, but it is being developed for Windows PC.
