Cells at Work live action movie announced

Cells at Work

A live action movie adaptation of Cells at Work! has been announced.

According to Oricon News, the new adaptation will feature Mei Nagano as the main Red Blood Cell character, and Takeru Satoh as the main White Blood Cell character. In the anime adaptation, these characters were voiced by Kana Hanazawa and Tomoaki Maeno respectively.

Nagano is a young actress who debuted in 2009. In recent years she’s had lead roles in the Daytime Shooting Star TV Drama, as well as the Teasing Master Takagi-san live action movie. Meanwhile Satoh is largely known for being the live-action actor for Himura Kenshin in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin adaptations.

Cells at Work! is a series that’s both educational and exciting, the cells in the human body are anthropomorphized and used to explain biological reactions such as scabbing, respiration, and even erections.

Due to the series versatile nature, it’s spawned multiple spinoffs including Cells at Work! CODE BLACK which gender swaps the main cast and takes place in an unhealthy body, and a chibi spinoff where the cells are inside of a baby.
