Capcom revenue declines nearly 50% year-over-year

Capcom has released their financial results for Q1 2022, and it seems their overall revenue has been declining annually despite record sales.

The new financial report (via GamesIndustry.biz) shows a steep decline from their Q1 2021 revenue. They reported nets sales of of ¥25.2 billion ($184 million), which is a 48% decrease year-over-year.


Their operating income is also a decline to Â¥12 billion ($87.6 million), leading to a 49% drop from last year. Capcom’s digital contents segment reported a drop of 55% with sales at Â¥20 billion ($146 million).

They attribute this decline in revenue as a result of last year having the major release of Resident Evil Village, a game that has sold over 5.7 million copies. In fact, Q1 2021 was their highest in first quarter net income and profit in company history.

Meanwhile this year has not seen any of their major releases out yet. Though they do maintain a positive outlook with the success of the Monster Hunter franchise, especially the newest expansion with Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

For the full fiscal year, Capcom expects net sales of ¥120 billion ($876 million), which would be a six year high. They also forecast their operating income to be ¥48 billion ($350.5 million), which would make this their 10th consecutive year of operating income growth.
