
In their recent quarterly report, Capcom disclosed that PC sales make up about 50% of their total game sales, dwarfing each individual console.
For years, consoles have been fighting to maintain exclusivity against PC releases. However as the number of PC gamers grows, those reasons become less and less economically viable.
In their latest report, Capcom said this about their third quarter performance.
PC sales account for approximately 50% of total unit sales, and we expect this ratio to continue increasing. Accordingly, we will further strengthen our PC development framework.
Unlike other companies, Capcom has maintained relative parity between consoles and PCs with the newest title Resident Evil: Requiem launching on both. At the time of writing the game has peaked with nearly 350,000 players and currently sits comfortably around 160,000.
While some gamers prefer the convenience of consoles and being able to plug and play, PC opens up players to a wide variety of indies and the added potential of mods.
