Capcom plans to be careful with Mega Man franchise

In a meeting with shareholders, Capcom explained that they need to “take care in how [they] develop the series” going forward.

The last big release for the mainline Mega Man franchise was in 2018 with Mega Man 11; meanwhile the X and Zero series haven’t had a new game since 2005 and 2007 respectively (we’re not counting the mobile game).

Meanwhile flashier franchises like Street FighterMonster Hunter, and Resident Evil continue to get new games and constant updates. This attention isn’t undeserved, but it feels like Mega Man has been all but forgotten with most of the franchise’s recent releases being collections and remasters.

When asked about continuing the series or reviving the franchise, Capcom explained: “We are considering how to approach the production of new entries in the series, which requires numerous factors, including the development of a solid concept, ideas and gameplay, etc.”

The latest entry in the franchise (including spin-offs and remasters) is Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, you can check out our review here!
