A Bocchi the Rock! movie is coming to Japanese theaters in the spring of next year.

While technically a movie, it’s more of a retelling of the first season condensed into a single feature length program. This is fairly common in the anime industry, particularly for popular series who might want to get new fans up to speed quickly.

Bocchi the Rock! follows high school girl Hitori Gotou. Hitori wants to join a band one day and has been practicing guitar diligently, but there’s one problem. Hitori’s too shy to actually go out and find bandmates to play with.

The series began in 2017 by creator Aki Hamaji. Bocchi the Rock! is Hamaji’s first solo project, having only been published before in several anthology manga alongside other creators.
