Blizzard Adds “Ex-Boyfriend” Dummy to World of Warcraft “Because Stabbing the Real Thing is Illegal”

Blizzard has revealed new items in the latest patch for World of Warcraft: Legion, and one of them is quite the stab at the male gender.

Dubbed the “Ex-Boyfriend Dummy,” the item allows players to display a punching-bag like dummy for five minutes, with a 30-minute cooldown restriction. Here’s the tagline that is probably going to get a lot of people upset:

“Because stabbing the real thing is illegal,” reads the item’s tagline. To be clear, this item is currently on the World of Warcraft: Legion test servers, and will be made available during next year’s “Love is in the Air” world event, which celebrates Valentine’s Day.

This is clearly an in-game joke made by Blizzard, however it makes you wonder the kind of reaction they would get if the gender-focus on the item was swapped to “Ex-Girlfriend Dummy.”

It’s also curious to see a move like this when Blizzard removed a victory pose from Overwatch’s Tracer following negative feedback. Should Blizzard simply add a female version – or remove this entirely? Sound off in the comments below!

World of Warcraft: Legion is currently available for PC and Mac.
