Another month, another new event and encounters for Pokemon GO, so we prepped the Best Mewtwo Raid Counters in 2022.
At the beginning of this month, Niantic unveiled its plans for events in Pokemon GO throughout June. The first half of June saw the return of the legendary primal Pokemon Groudon and Kyogre. With the 2 Legendary Hoenn Pokemon starting off June, you would expect that Rayquazza would finish out the month of June.
Well, you would be wrong because there is a special Pokemon Crossover Event occurring. Starting on June 16th, Mewtwo will spawn in Legendary raids at 10 AM local time; it will run until July 1st. Trainers who are lucky will have the chance to encounter a shiny Mewtwo. Mewtwo Raid hours will take place on June 22nd and June 29th at 6 P.M local time.
This event is to celebrate the release of the Pokemon Go TCG cards. In the new set the main Alternate art card features Mewtwo in New York City.
Now check out our Mewtwo Raid guide below to learn the best raid counters!

Mewtwo Raid Counters
Going into the Mewtwo Raid, trainers will need Pokemon with high defensive stats or type effective attacks. Overall, Mewtwo can be a difficult Legendary Pokemon to take down in Pokemon Go unless you use a well-rounded team. This raid can be easily completed by a team of 4 to 6 trainers; a team of 6 to 20 trainers can easily take it down, so make sure to get a better completionist bonus for additional Balls.
Using Mega Pokemon such as Mega Gengar, Mega Houndoom, or Mega Beedrill will make trainers’ lives easier. Ultimately, you will want to use Dark, Ghost, or Bug-type Pokemon. Be careful, because the raid can be difficult if using Psychic, Ground, Fighting, Water, or Grass-type Pokemon.
Here are the best counters to overcoming the raid. Some of these recommendations can be substituted out for Pokemon with type advantage or a better move set.
