Bayonetta PC Update Blatantly Teases Vanquish PC Port

A new but small update was released for Bayonetta on PC, and many fans were curious if it actually did anything.

Some more devoted fans (via NeoGAF) heavily scrutinized what actually saw a change with the update, and it appears that Sega is teasing a PC version for Vanquish.

The updated only added the following image to the game’s /EXTRAS/ folder, within its main install:

This is an avatar-sized image from Vanquish, another game developed by Platinum Games and published by Sega. Could this mean Sega is planning a PC version of the action-shooter?

Following the Bayonetta’s Steam release, Sega noted they have plans to “explore PC port options” with their other titles. That game’s release saw noticeably good sales, as Sega even said they were “extremely overwhelmed” by the support the title saw on PC.

We’ll keep you guys posted.

I tried playing Vanquish, but I cannot stomach console shooters so sent it back without finishing it. I would love to be able to play it with a mouse.

I hope this trend picks up steam, and that other publishers/devs follow suit. There’s so much old shit I’d love to play on PC, with or without a lick of HD paint.

I’m sick of Burnout Paradise sitting in my Steam library, mocking me with its pale imitation of the fantastic games that preceded it.

Disappointed thinking the update was gonna fix the random stuttering problems, but also glad that this pretty much confirms a Vanquish port with how they vaguely teased bayonetta the last time.

That would certainly be nice, I loved Vanquish, but they would REALLY need to add some additional content or unlockables to make me double dip; Vanquish had pretty much zero replay value to speak of, and coming off of the heels of Bayonetta with all of the unlockable weapons, game modes, costumes etc. was a disappointment. There was such huge potential for some awesome weapon unlocks but there was literally nothing.

If they ported it to PS4, Xbox One, or Switch, they’d eventually have to port them again to the systems that replace those, and so on. Since PCs don’t really lose support, once a port is done, they don’t have to worry about it anymore since the game will always be playable on a modern platform.

For example, currently Bayonetta is playable at 8k on PC. There aren’t even 8k televisions. Years from now once 8k tvs are a norm the game will still look good and be playable on a modern platform.

Not against ports to other platforms though; if Vanquish comes out on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch that’d be pretty stellar. The more people the merrier. Just saying that porting older games to PC and porting older games to other platforms is a little different.

Most of the game is using the sticks to aim, which is the problem point with console shooters.

Bayonetta on PC is great but this really is the Platinum title that needs a PC port. Well suited for PC as a third person shooter and overlooked back then.

Somewhat related, Platinum has been posting random clips on their YouTube channel from both Bayonetta games which loop 3 times. You can connect the dots to figure what that’s teasing.

  42. Casey

It wasn’t a “mistake”. Nintendo funded Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta 2 would not exist without Nintendo’s funding. It’s the same reason Bloodbourne isn’t on pc. Sony helped fund it.

  43. RichardGristle
    April 24, 2017 at 10:41 pm

Like how SF5 isn’t on PC?

Regardless, Platinum isn’t in the same desperate situation where they have to be bailed out. It would be asinine for them to make Bayonetta 3 a Switch exclusive. There are 1.5 million Switches in people’s homes. There are almost 90 million PS4/Xbones and countless PCs.

  44. Casey
    April 24, 2017 at 11:00 pm

The SF deal was hammered out as Sony helping to fund it, not funding it completely. Capcom probably stipulated a PC release when they made the deal.

That being said, nah, I highly doubt that platinum is interested in doing jack shit for the switch as of right now. With Nier Automata doing so well on pc and ps4, it’d be an asinine move. If Nintendo does anything with platinum, it’ll probably be some sort of new IP with nintendo forcing them to shoehorn as much gimmicky bullshit as possible. Of course, they’re not likely to do shit with Microsoft either, given how their partnership with Scalebound fell apart in such an astronomical fashion.
