Baten Kaitos I & II HD Collection making changes to “match the current era”

Baten Kaitos I & II HD

Historical revisionism of classic video games is again being performed, this time with the Baten Kaitos I & II HD Collection.

Website Nintendo Everything interviewed the producer of Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster, Koji Nakajima, who noted that both games will not have the English dubs from their original GameCube launches.

Nakajima explained there will be no English dubs at all because the team “adjusted some expressions to match the modern era”, which is commonly uttered newspeak essentially equating to censorship for the sake of political correctness.

Other games that were censored so that the developer could keep them “relevant to modern audiences”, include the Dead Space remake, the upcoming Splinter Cell remake, as well as Resident Evil 4 VR.

“In developing the remastered version, we tried to make adjustments on some of the expressions to match the current era,” Nakajima said. “That’s why we made the difficult decision not to use English VOs for this remastered version, due to the discrepancies that will happen.”

It should also be mentioned that the Baten Kaitos English dubs weren’t the greatest when it came to quality (perhaps serving as the real reason behind their lack of inclusion):

The skimpy outfit of the blonde girl will likely be altered.

The remaster will contain additional features such as “Instant KO”, “No Encounters”, and battle speed increases of up to 300%.

The newly remastered ports of the classic GameCube JRPGs are set to launch on September 14th in Japan and Asia and on September 15th worldwide, for Nintendo Switch.
