Atlus, Idea Factory, Koei Tecmo, and More Tease New Games for 2017

This week’s Famitsu (via Hachima) has the yearly gathering of developer interviews from a multitude of Japanese companies, each with their expectations for 2017.

While there are over 40 different game creators sounding off with thoughts and even new game teases, we’ve compiled some of the more noteworthy ones.

Atlus is reportedly ramping up “multiple” unannounced games for 2017, hot off the heels of their Project Re Fantasy reveal (pictured above). Idea Factory and Compile Heart are busy with sequels to existing titles as well as entirely new games.

5pb. is working on even more anime to game adaptations, which include both currently announced and yet to be announced titles. Valhalla Game Studios are still updating and supporting Devil’s Third Online, and are working on the Momotaro Dentetsu reboot – they teased undertaking “multiple” genres in 2017.

Finally, Koei Tecmo is working on the recently announced Dynasty Warriors 9, and are preparing “surprising” new games.

What do you hope to see from these Japanese creators? Sound off in the comments below!

Atlus, IF and Koei Tecmo were some of my favourite publishers this year, so more games from them is a good thing.

Only thing I’m hoping for are Western releases. From IF or Atlus, I’ll play just about anything.

I hope none of their new games planned are initially not announced for PC and never released on PC in the future.

I’m hoping for less self-censorship in 2017.. other than that, I’m hoping for some solid RPGs and platform games.

So companies aren’t allowed to be creative and change character designs? Is that what you’re saying?

I’m so glad that P5 did well creatively and commercially otherwise Atlus might have been finished. And hopefully they can produce games a little quicker now.

    Whoa there SJW.
I got no problem with character changes or creativity, but when its openly done to prevent adult children like you from having a screaming fit online and offline at the sight of a pair of panties or cleavage in a videogame, then I call it self censorship.

If the changes are to incomplete designs as you’d see in artbooks I don’t have a problem with that. If the changes are different from completed games from the east and are altered to pander sjws or avoid hate from shitrags like kotacos like with #fe than that is what I have an issue with. But lucky it’s atlus and idea factory so we don’t have anything to worry about. Honestly I have no idea why someone with a pro censorship stance would post here knowing that the majority of the posters here came to this site because of the writer’s and admin’s anti censorship stance.

I was thinking the same thing, mainly because Atlus actually worked with them on a few.

They know how to handle the series, and they know niche games, seems like a natural fit to me.

I wonder how a Fire Emblem cross over would work out. That also sounds like a good fit.

Have to give Atlus credit, they did order their localizers to redo the entire script for the Western release and added duel audio. Many are skeptical as to the quality now, (for some good reasons) but my money is on the localizers memed it and Atlus told them to do it right.

There is some hope for it. Most of the developers were hired by Marvelous after Neverland went bust. No one knows what they’ve been working on since, but fans (myself include) hope for Rune Factory 5.
