Atari is known as one of the giants for retro and classic gaming and now they’ve really solidified this fact by acquiring over 100 PC and console game from the 80s and 90s.
Notable titles within this massive list include Bubsy, Hardball, and the Demolition Racer series. These were all titles that have had ties to Atari though their relationships with former companies Accolade, Infogrames and Microprose.
“This is a deep catalog that includes groundbreaking and award-winning titles from Accolade, Infogrames and Microprose,” said Atari CEO Wade Rosen. “Many of these titles are a part of Atari history, and fans can look forward to seeing many of these games re-released in physical and digital formats, and in some cases, even ported to modern consoles.”
The statement by Rosen show that fans of these classic titles can look forward to obtaining them easier or even see a remaster/remake to these game. The latter of which could be similar to the treatment of other Atari launches like Yars: Recharged and Caverns of Mars: Recharged.
This announcement also comes shortly after Atari had already acquired a dozen of other classic IPs from gaming’s past. Also, with their acquisition of Nightdive Studios, who are known for their remasters of older PC classics, it appears there will be some big things coming from them in the future.
