Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced a premiere date for Armored Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe, the latest film in the Armored Trooper Votoms franchise.
The new sequel film to the beloved mecha anime will roll out in two parts, with part one premiering on November 20 this year. Bandai Namco Filmworks also revealed new key visuals along with staff information.
“On the endless battlefield filled with madness, where lives are expendable, there is one witch who always come back to life,” reads the translated quote from Bandai’s new trailer for the film. For non-German speakers, the latter half of the title means “The Grey Witch.”

Ryousuke Takahashi, the director and original creator of the 1983 Votoms anime will be supervising the project. Shinobu Tsuneki and Yoshiro Sono are in charge of the mecha designs.

The director for the new film is Mamoru Oshii, who will be joined by his old friend, Kenji Kawai as the composer. Kawai has scored incredible music in the past to compliment Oshii’s beautiful cinematography, most notably in Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor 2: The Movie.
Oshii says he is a massive fan of the original Votoms anime, and has always wanted to work on this series. He added that he is serious about making a war-action film.

Armored Trooper Votoms first aired in 1983 following the mecha craze that swept Japan after Mobile Suit Gundam. It has spawned numerous entries since then and even has a PS2 game.

In case you’re wondering, VOTOMS is the lazy man’s way of saying Vertical One-man Tank for Offense & Maneuvers. A mouthful, I know. Check out the new trailer below:
At the time of writing, a US release for Armored Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe has yet to be announced.
