While Mighty No. 9 hasn’t launched yet, Comcept boss Keiji Inafune is positioning the IP for an animated series, a live-action movie, post-launch DLC, a sequel, as well as amiibo support for Nintendo’s consoles.
The news for Mighty No. 9 amiibo comes from an interview with the creator and USGamer, where he talked up the game’s delays and the opportunity to create the aforementioned sequel.
“That’s definitely an option for us, and if we have the opportunity to do it, then we’ll definitely take the chance,” said Inafune when asked if the company would consider amiibo for Nintendo fans.
“And also, we know for a fact a lot of our backers are Nintendo fans, because we ran a platform survey [for Mighty No. 9], and we see how many people are choosing Nintendo hardware. So it’s definitely something we have to look into.”
Mighty No. 9 is launching on February 9th in North America and February 12th for the rest of the world across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Linux, and Mac, followed by a staggered release for PS Vita and 3DS sometime later.

November 11, 2015 at 11:07 amHow about releasing the game first? Until the game is on the shelves Amiibos are not an option.
At least the Shovel Knight developers waited an year to implement this limited physically locked DLC.

November 11, 2015 at 11:12 amOf all the things Nintendo has done the past few years that has pissed me off, and there are quite a few, Amiibo may be the on that pissed me off the most. Naturally, this makes it a perfect fit for Mighty No.9.

Ha ha, just kidding. Who cares.

November 11, 2015 at 11:57 amI do recall two major sources of disappointment, one from the one community manager thou shalt not mention, and other from a lackluster beta, while bad community managers come and go, the game not being very fun to play in its beta state is a little worrying.

November 11, 2015 at 12:18 pmFor only $500,000 more to the MN09 kickstarter, they can design the amiibo, another $250,000 to color it, and for just a down payment on a private jet, they will even consider maybe actually producing them! ORDER NAO!!!!1!1one!!

November 11, 2015 at 12:19 pmI suppose, but that’s money man. I bought a lot of stinkers, oldies, and no-name games, and this game just doesn’t scream “gem”.
Especially after I tried that prototype build that was leaked. Man the dashing is asinine. How much is this game releasing for, anyway?

November 11, 2015 at 2:20 pmIt’s such a shame, I used to actually like Inafune. Soul Sacrifice was excellent. How he’s fallen from that to this is beyond me
OverlordZetta
November 11, 2015 at 2:30 pmHe hasn’t really fallen, honestly.
I mean look at this, really. He was asked “Would you like to implement amiibo support?” and he said “Yes.” That’s it.
It’s a nothing thing to be upset about.
The fact is, the media’s done a lot of damage here – look at this article.
The animated series? They were approached about this by the animators.
Live action movie? Dozens of those are “in the works” right now and have been for years – it’s a meaningless thing until something comes of it.
The DLC? It was part of the campaign as a stretch goal, and one that was requested by backers at that.
Potential sequel? He specifically said if the first game is successful and if people want it (the if is important, as it means it’s not like he’s going to do it if it flops), he’d like to do one – a… pretty normal thing for creators, really. I’d be surprised if there were many that didn’t feel this way – we’re talking about their babies here.
And amiibo? He was asked if he’d like to. He said yes. Oh no? What a travesty?
This is all a bunch of nothing issues, or problems a ton of developers do/have too, for some inexplicable reason only being brought up in regards to one. It’s laughable and it’s sad.

November 11, 2015 at 2:56 pmI’m gonna reply even though I know your reputation as a hardcore Inafune apologist because I have nothing better to do
The animated series i’ll let slide for now because I don’t know enough but moving on, the live action movie, sure plenty are in the works. For series that have actually seen releases of some description. And most of which that weren’t crowdfunded. Not even remotely the same thing, he took people’s money and hasn’t even delivered the thing it was for yet
DLC, once again, i’ll let slide because people are just mad about that all the time regardless of the circumstances
Sequel? It’s cool to want to make one but to start talking it up before you even deliver the first one is a little distasteful to the consumer given how many delays this thing has already had
Amiibo, just another thing to implement into the game, produce and ship = more delays. Unless it comes late but then why talk about it?
And of course then there’s the stuff that’s not mentioned in the article at all. The delays, the whole community fiasco, the fact that he’s been crowdfunding other projects whilst this one still hasn’t been delivered, etc etc
Siveon
November 11, 2015 at 3:15 pmAnd? I haven’t exactly been the one complaining about their delays.

Siveon
November 11, 2015 at 3:29 pmProbably not, I just really like the Wii U in particular. Especially Nintendo’s D-pad.
I just think in terms of platformer kickstarters, that one ranks way higher than Might No. 9.

November 11, 2015 at 3:44 pmHow does someone paying Inafune for the movie rights at all reflect negatively on Inafune himself? And what does it being Kickstarted have to with that? Someone making (or buying the rights then not making) a MN9 movie isn’t going to make the game come out any faster or slower.
He talked about Amiibo because the interviewer directly asked if he was looking into them. Inafune responded that Amiibo were a possible option, and that they have lots of Nintendo fans so they might look into it. That’s all. They aren’t working on them, they aren’t even planning for them; they’re just something he may look into at some point.
Same with the stuff about a sequel. Of course they’ll make a sequel if it sells well and fans want one, who wouldn’t?
People really need to learn that vague statements given during interviews about things that a studio might possibly do at some point in the future shouldn’t be taken as set-in-stone business decisions. “Maybe” doesn’t mean “yes” or “no”, it just means “maybe”. This reminds of when the Dark Souls 2 director was asked in an interview (before the game launch) if they would make DLC, and he said that they didn’t have any concrete plans, but would if the game sold well and people wanted DLC. A few months later they announced the DLC (after the game selling well and everyone wanting more…) and people flipped out, saying that he promised “no DLC”…

November 11, 2015 at 5:21 pmHalo and that one fighter, did they finally make a good Dpad, what makes it better for multiplat, got friends with it too?
XBO doesn’t have much in the way of exclusives or at least interesting ones to me, while PS4 has all the multiplats it has while having all the Jap games too. PS4 has more things to try is what I’m getting at.
Oh, and Crackdown, like the only thing I wanna play since I don’t see Phantom Dust going well.

November 12, 2015 at 6:04 pmHasn’t really fallen? Have you seen the public’s opinion on the man after all that has happened with MN9?
If any of the criticism against him is warranted or not is besides the point. How he’s handled everything has been poorly done and his image has suffered as a result.
