Amazon Listing for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch Appears Online

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Switch

A listing for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch has appeared on Amazon.

The listing does not show an image or any description, only that “This item has not yet been released.” However, there is a small chance this is a template listing (used and altered for other game titles) that has accidentally gone live.

Amazon France had erroneously listed multiple PlayStation 4 titles coming to Windows PC, including Persona 5 Royal, Gran Turismo Sport, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, The Last of Us Part II, and Days Gone. Sega would later state listings for their games were an error.

This is further supported by the game’s listed release date as 2030 [1, 2]. A Nintendo Switch port of Skyward Sword had been rumored since late 2018, but Nintendo have been hemorrhaging leaks in recent months after the cancellation of E3 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

We previously reported on the rumors that to celebrate the Super Mario franchise’ 35th anniversary, there would be many new games and “high-definition remasters.”

These included remasters of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. The rumor also claimed there would be a “deluxe” version of Super Mario 3D World, and a new Paper Mario. “Most of Mario’s back catalogue will be remastered for Switch,” sources claimed, along with “several other Mario titles in 2020.”

Later, we heard claims that Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy would be part of a “collection.” In addition, there were claims that the alleged new Paper Mario “represents a return to that franchise’s roots.”

A listing for Super Mario 3D World on Nintendo Switch appeared on Best Buy’s website, and Paper Mario: The Origami King was announced. While the game has turn-based RPG elements (unlike Super Paper Mario), there are other elements such as a puzzle-based battle system, and a focus on consumable special attacks and coins over experience points.

A Twitter account seemingly dedicated to the Super Mario franchise’ 35th anniversary has also been discovered, lending credence to rumors about upcoming games.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword launched in 2011 for the Wii, and 2016 digitally on the Wii U. It utilized the Wii’s motion controls to the fullest, by having players swing their Wii remote to have Link swing his sword the same way.

The earliest game in the (ever changing and complex) Zelda timeline, players start in the floating town of Skyloft. A land beneath the clouds is thought to only be a myth, yet Zelda is kidnapped and dragged down to the surface- with Link in hot pursuit. Soon he uncovers a spirit living within a sword called Fi, and a terrible plot to unleash a foul beast called Demise.
