Listing for Super Mario 3D World on Nintendo Switch Appears on Best Buy Website

Super Mario 3D World

A listing for Super Mario 3D World on Nintendo Switch (rumored by earlier reports) has been discovered on Best Buy’s website.

We previously reported on the rumors that to celebrate the Super Mario franchise’ 35th anniversary, there would be many new games and “high-definition remasters.”

These included remasters of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. The rumor also claimed there would be a “deluxe” version of Super Mario 3D World, and a new Paper Mario. “Most of Mario’s back catalogue will be remastered for Switch,” sources claimed, along with “several other Mario titles in 2020.”

Later, we heard claims that Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy would be part of a “collection.” In addition, there were claims that the alleged new Paper Mariorepresents a return to that franchise’s roots.”

Now, the claims of surrounding of Super Mario 3D World coming to the Nintendo Switch has gained a little weight. Twitter user Wario64 (an account dedicated to video game news), discovered an incomplete listing of Super Mario 3D World for Nintendo Switch on Best Buy’s website.

While we were unable to produce the same page as in the image that Wario64 showed (revealing the game as costing $59.99 USD though Best Buy), using the SKU of the product, we entered the following URL: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/6352130.p?skuId=6352130. This then redirects to https://www.bestbuy.com/site/super-mario-3d-world-nintendo-switch/6352130.p?skuId=6352130.

While this would seem to be confirmed, online store listings are surprisingly not a guarantee. Last week we reported how Amazon France erroneously listed multiple PlayStation 4 titles as coming to PC (including Persona 5 Royal, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, The Last of Us Part II, and more).

A wrong or incorrect SKU on the Best Buy website also redirects to an error page. Though we did manage to find this page via SKU 6352230. While it has the same error page, the notable part of the URL is “ps4-sony-e3-sku-6-playstation-4.” After this, all other error pages include the same part of the URL.

While doubtful, there is a slim chance that the Super Mario 3D World listing is a form of template, which Best Buy staff then duplicate and edit to produce listings of other video games. However it is more likely publishers send all the necessary information and formatting per-title, to each store for their purposes.

On the other hand, Nintedo did recently announce the final major update for Super Mario Maker 2. Among the new power-ups include the Cannon Block and Goomba Mask, first seen in Super Mario 3D World. The Propeller Block will also be added, first appearing in Super Mario 3D Land, and later Super Mario 3D World.

The update to a singular Super Mario title does not guarantee the supposed focus on numerous Super Mario titles for the franchise’ 35th anniversary. When combined with what could be a genuine listing however, the rumors appear more credible.
