20th Century Studios has finally shared the first teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, the first feature-length sequel film in the franchise since 1997’s Alien Resurrection.
The seventh installment in the sci-fi horror franchise, Alien: Romulus takes place between the original 1979 film and its direct sequel, Aliens, and centers on a group of young space colonizers scavenging a derelict space station.
Fans will be delighted to hear that Alien: Romulus is touted as a film to bring the franchise back to its roots, specifically more on the survival and horror themes found in the original landmark film.
The trailer shows off familiar and real sets of chunky, analogue hallways and devices, the iconic hypersleep beds (though one reveals a horrible event took place), the crew struggling to survive, and even a familiar hugging creature.
To anyone’s surprise, the film teases that this young group of space colonists quickly meet up with the most terrifying life form – the xenomorph, after which both chaos and terror ensue.
Fede Alvarez (2013 Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) is directing and co-wrote the film with Rodo Sayagues. Ridley Scott is co-producing alongside returning Alien producers Walter Hill and Michael Pruss
Alien: Romulus is being co-produced by original director/creator Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions and Alien film studio Brandywine Productions, and stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
