Adam Orth to Speak at the Game Developer’s Conference

Adam Orth, a former creative director at Microsoft’s Xbox TV team, is giving an expanded version of his lecture about the internet mob and the hate they can spew at the upcoming Game Developer’s Conference. This talk is following his absolute melt-down on twitter in April of last year.

To briefly sum up what happened, following several media outlets reporting on the new Microsoft console (currently unrevealed at that time) having an always online internet connection. Naturally this got lots of gamers and industry folk alike uneasy, as it would remove the rights of end users with the console.

Cue Adam Orth, a guy who worked at EA, LucasArts, Sony Santa Monica, and now (at the time) Microsoft’s Xbox TV team, who took to his personal twitter to say things like this:

It didn’t stop there, saying other absolutely ridiculous things such as “Sometimes the electricity goes out. I will not purchase a vacuum cleaner” and my personal favorite, “The mobile reception in the area I live in is spotty and unreliable. I will not buy a mobile phone.”

The collective internet was definitely not happy with this, websites such as reddit and NeoGAF completely tore him to pieces and painted him as a villain that was against the end user’s rights – clearly he was acting completely ridiculous. Despite all of his negative and condescending words, he seems to be playing the victim in his presentation.

Some highlights from his original talk at GDC Next of last year include things like “Society has regressed to a point where this is an accepted way to react to an opinion you disagree with” and how he is now aiming to end internet toxicity, starting with the hashtag #GetInvolved. In closing, he did regret what he said and did, stating “I was totally stupid, I did something really terrible.”

His talk is set to happen at the upcoming Game Developer’s Conference, which takes place in San Francisco between March 17th to the 21st. You can view his talk’s page here.
