While Nexon is making a Ghost in the Shell first person shooter and Hollywood is making a white-washed live action movie adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson, the studio that produced the Ghost in the Shell: Arise movies is making yet another animated film.
The news came via the official Ghost in the Shell Youtube channel, where the above teaser trailer and key visual artwork were revealed. Upon further investigation, we’ve learned the movie is being commissioned as a celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary.
Premiering sometime this summer in Japan, the movie will be produced by the very same company that put out the Ghost in the Shell: Arise movies. The screenplay is being handled by Tow Ubukata (who worked on the previous Ghost in the Shell: Arise movies), while Kazuya Nomura (known for the Robotics;Notes anime) is at the helm as the director. Finally, Japanese musician/composer Cornelius (also known for Ghost in the Shell: Arise) is returning to produce the score.
