When Maniac Mansion first launched, it was a major hit for Lucasfilm Games, who would go on in the future to create some amazing point and click adventure titles.

The studio later made classics like the Monkey Island series and Grim Fandango. The latter, along with Full Trottle and Maniac Mansion sequel Day of the Tentacle, would later get remasters that are now available on Xbox Game Pass.

There have been other fan remakes of the classic title, which saw a release on PC platforms and later on consoles like the NES and Amiga. One remake came in the form of Maniac Mansion Deluxe, but Meteor Mess 3D takes the original game into a whole new dimension

The game is a full 3D remake of the original title, featuring the mansion itself and all the characters rendered in a 3 dimensional space. You’ll still have all the classic items and characters such as Dave or Razor, along with enemies in Dr. Fred and Nurse Edna.

This new version created by fans also includes new items, rooms, and an entirely new way to beat the game and save Dave’s girlfriend, Sandy. So those who’ve enjoyed the original game will find new puzzles to solve and be able to get a new and different experience beyond improved visuals.

The remake also touts different models and outfits for characters, such as allowing you to choose between making the Edison family have normal skin or blue skin as they appeared in the older games. They also feature voice acting for all the characters as well.

Meteor Mess 3D has been in the works for over a decade now, but only just recently announced a release date for the long await 3D remake of the classic Maniac Mansion. It will launch for free on PC on October 5th, which also is the 25th year anniversary of the original game – the same day it launched on the Commodore 64 and Apple II computers back in 1987.
