Square Enix Launch Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary Survey, Closes August 23

Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary

Square Enix have launched a Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary survey; asking fans about their thoughts and feelings for the series.

As stated on the Dragon Quest Facebook page, the 10 to 15 minute survey is open now until August 23rd at 11:59 p.m. PT (07:59 a.m. BST on August 24th). You can find the survey here.

Keep in mind once you answer a category, you cannot go back to the prior page. Also, the question about what Dragon Quest games users have played (page 20) are divided up into multiple platforms for the same title. When this writer took the survey, the final text box question for other comments had a “transmission error” when submitted, but no character limit was stated.

Therein, the survey asks users their age range, some personal questions, the gaming systems they own, and favorite genres. Users are also asked how they usually spend their money on games (such as microtransactions or direct software purchases), where they first hear about Dragon Quest news.

Along with asking if users have heard of various Dragon Quest and Square Enix social media pages; users are also asked if they are excited for the future of the series, and what titles they are looking forward to from the 35th Anniversary Special livestream.

That livestream revealed the next mainline Dragon Quest game; Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate. During the announcement; series creator Yuji Horii described the game as “an adult Dragon Quest,” and how a decision players or the character makes will change the game dramatically. A voice in the announcement trailer stated “what is the purpose of light?” further adding to speculation of a darker story.

The game will also change the command battle system, but still be the well known turn-based RPG battle system. Horii later took to social media to state “it’s okay if you’re not good at action!” The news of a new game, along with the changes that it may bring, caused the game to trend on Twitter in Japan.

Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda also reportedly stated Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is being designed “with the next 10 to 20 years of the DQ series in mind.” Will this survey help in that objective?

We will keep you informed as we learn more.
