Warhammer Fest 2021 Day 4 – Warhammer Underworlds, Necromunda, and Aeronautica Imperialis

Warhammer Fest

Games Workshop’s ongoing Warhammer Fest 2021 fourth day of reveals included new models and books for Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm, Necromunda, and Aeronautica Imperialis.

As previously reported, Warhammer Fest is an annual Games Workshop convention that celebrates all things Warhammer. This includes seminars with designers, tournaments and hobby events, and lots of news and big reveals for upcoming products.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in the UK, Games Workshop had to hold a digital version of the event again this year, with 30 to 40 minute livestreams of news and upcoming products every day until May 8th.

The first day was all about Age of Sigmar, and focused on new model reveals for the upcoming Soulblight Gravelords faction, and the contents of Broken Realms: Kragnos, the fourth and final book in the Broken Realms series.

The second day was the first of two streams focused on Warhammer 40k, and revealed the second War Zone Charadon book, Act II: The Book of Fire, as well as some new toys for the Sisters of Battle.

The third day was the Black Library stream, which announced a wide range of upcoming Warhammer 40k novels, as well as a brand new plastic kit for the legendary Gaunt’s Ghosts.

The fourth day was a bit of a mystery, as it was simply labeled as “boxed games.” This catch-all term for GW’s specialist games includes a wide range of products; with the full list being Warhammer Quest (Cursed City being the most recent version), Warhammer Underworlds, Necromunda, Bloodbowl, Adeptus Titanicus, Warcry, Kill Team, and Aeronautica Imperialis. That’s before discussing rumored upcoming specialist games, such as a reboot of Battlefleet Gothic.

As it turned out, the boxed games getting attention this time around were Warhammer Underworlds, Necromunda, and Aeronautica Imperialis.

The stream kicked off with the reveal of Elathain’s Soulraid; the eighth and final warband being added to the current Direchasm season of the competitive deckbuilding/miniatures game hybrid, Warhammer Underworlds.

Elathain’s Soulraid were teased at the start of the new season, and are both the first Idoneth Deepkin warband, and the first new Idoneth models since the faction released for Age of Sigmar several years back.

The warband is led by Elathain Ill-Fated, who is accompanied by the Akhelian warrior Fuirann, the Namarti hunter Tammael, a Spinefin fish, and a Duinclaw crab. The warband is described as having a control-orientated playstyle, with high damage output but fragile survivability.

Moving on to the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, a new Necromunda faction book was announced. House of Shadow is the sixth book in the “House of” series, which gives each of Necromunda‘s core gangs their own codex-style book full of rules and lore. This latest book is all about the stealthy and mysterious spymasters of Delaque.

As with past books, House of Shadow will be accompanied by a new plastic kit of miniatures representing powerful champions and specialists for the highlighted gang. The new kit will give Delaque access to two types of Psy-Ghesit, a pair of Nacht-Ghul assassins, a Psychoteric Wyrm, and the rather unsettling Piscean Spektor.

As the above trailer shows, Games Workshop have finally given fans what they most desire: a plastic Thunderhawk kit. This is comes with a caveat; as this new kit is part of the Space Marine reinforcements for the air combat game Aeronautica Imperialis. This is seemingly teased with its reveal trailer.

Wrath of Angels is a new two-player starter box for Aeronautica Imperialis that introduces two new factions to the game, Space Marines and the Craftworld Aeldari. The box contains a board, rulebook, and all the dice, tokens, and other accessories two friends need to start playing right away.

The Space Marine half of the box consists of three Xiphon Interceptors and two Storm Eagles, while the Aeldari get three Nightwings and three Phoenix Bombers.

That’s all for the fourth day of Warhammer Fest 2021 reveals. The next livestream will be the second stream focused on Warhammer 40k, and will presumably be full of reveals for the upcoming Beast Snagga Orks that have been teased for weeks.
