Warhammer Fest 2021 Day 3 – Gaunt’s Ghosts and Black Library Reveals

Warhammer Fest Gaunt's Ghosts

Games Workshop’s ongoing Warhammer Fest 2021 livestreams continue with its third day of reveals, which included Gaunt’s Ghosts and some of the upcoming Black Library novels.

As previously mentioned, Warhammer Fest is an annual Games Workshop convention that celebrates all things Warhammer. This includes seminars with designers, tournaments and hobby events, and lots of news and big reveals for upcoming products.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in the UK, Games Workshop had to hold a digital version of the event again this year, with 30 to 40 minute livestreams of news and upcoming products every day until May 8th.

The first day was all about Age of Sigmar, and focused on new model reveals for the upcoming Soulblight Gravelords faction, and the contents of Broken Realms: Kragnos, the fourth and final book in the Broken Realms series.

The second day was the first of two streams focused on Warhammer 40k, and revealed the second War Zone Charadon book, Act II: The Book of Fire, as well as some new toys for the Sisters of Battle.

The third day of Warhammer Fest 2021 was all about Black Library, Games Workshop’s publishing division for novels based on Warhammer in all its forms. There was a big focus on the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, so it is only natural that some of its most famous combatants would get their chance to shine on the tabletop once again in a set of tie-in miniatures.

Gaunt’s Ghosts are returning to the battlefield with a new plastic kit representing some of its most famous members, replacing an older set of models that have long since been discontinued. This new set of miniatures consist of Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, Colonel Colm Corbec, Major Elim Rawne, Master Sniper Hlaine Larkin, ‘Try Again’ Bragg, and Sergeant Scout Oan Mkoll.

The Tanith First and Only will return in The Vincula Insurgency, a new Gaunt’s Ghosts novel by Dan Abnett. This new book in the long-running series is set in the earlier days of Ibram Gaunt and the Tanith First’s campaign, and details a dark secret that the regiment would like to forget.

The Vincula Insurgency is getting a very fancy limited collector’s edition; which includes a specially bound version of the book, a set of maps, a cap pin, a regiment patch, coins, a metal memory box, artwork, and a datasheet to use the new Gaunt’s Ghosts models in 40k.

Sabbat War is a new anthology of short stories set during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. The book features new stories written by Dan Abnett, Graham McNeill, John French, Matthew Farrer, and Rachel Harrison.

Rounding out the new Sabbat Worlds novels is Volpone Glory by Nick Kyme, which follows the Volpone Bluebloods as they fight against the fanatical Blood Pact cultists to retake Gnostes. Meanwhile, Urdesh: The Serpent and the Saint by Matthew Farrer focuses on the Iron Snakes Space Marine Chapter as they fight to prevent a powerful living weapon from falling into the hands of the Anarch.

With all of these new books about the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, you might want to pick up some supplementary material to guide you. The Sabbat Worlds Crusade is a limited edition reference book full of art, maps, charts, and details about key battles and campaigns during the crusade.

If you are looking for a fancy new bookmark to save your progress through all these new novels, then Games Workshop has you covered with a stylized Ibram Gaunt bookmark.

Moving away from the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, there were a few other 40k novels announced during the stream. Traitor Rock by Justin D Hill follows Minka Lesk and the rest of the Cadian 101st in the aftermath of the Fall of Cadia. Meanwhile, Steel Tread is about the dysfunctional crew of a Leman Russ Demolisher in their battle against the forces of Chaos.

If you are a filthy xenos player, then you might be more interested in The Twice-Dead King – Ruin by Nate Crowley. This debut novel starts a new series about the disgraced Necron Lord Oltyx, who must swallow his pride and return to the court that exiled him to warn of an impeding Ork invasion.

The Warhammer Crime series is getting a trio of new books as well. Broken City is an anthology of six short stories about the brutal criminal underworld of Varangantua’s grimy urban sprawl.

Sanction and Sin is another Warhammer Crime anthology containing nine stories of corrupt enforcers, and vicious gangs in the 41st millennium. Meanwhile, Grim Repast by Marc Collins is the story of Probator Quillon Drask’s latest case to uncover a blasphemous conspiracy.

Finally, we leave the grim darkness of the 41st millennium to travel back to the grim darkness of the 31st millennium with the latest Horus Heresy book. Siege of Terra: Warhawk by Chris Wraight continues the series’ advance towards the end of the Horus Heresy by recounting the daring counterattack by Jaghatai Khan and the White Scars to retake Lion’s Gate from the traitor Legions.

That’s all for the third day of Warhammer Fest 2021 reveals. The next livestream will focus on Games Workshop’s boxed games, which presumably means reveals for any combination of Cursed City, Warhammer Underworlds, Warcry, Necromunda, Kill Team, Blood Bowl, Adeptus Titanicus, and Aeronautica Imperialis.
