Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children 4K Remaster Announced

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children 4K

Square Enix has announced a Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children 4K remaster, and it’s coming on June 8th, 2021.

The Advent Children 4K remaster is actually a 4K remaster of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, the 2009-released remastered version of the 2005 original CGI film based on Final Fantasy VII. The Complete release adds 25 minutes to the original film’s runtime, tweaked a bunch of scenes, and also expanded upon Cloud’s development a bit.

The new 4K remaster for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete brings with it the expected goodies that typically come with 4K releases, namely HDR support, and even a dual-language Dolby Atmos audio track.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was originally released in 2005 and took off where the story in the original Final Fantasy VII left off, and was mostly received well with fans of the game but criticized by non-fans for its nearly incomprehensible storyline. All of the main characters from the game return, while some familiar foes also make a return, in one way or another.

It makes sense that Square Enix and Sony would do a 4K remaster for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children considering how much they’re pushing the Final Fantasy VII IP with the Final Fantasy VII Remake and all the spinoff games they’re also working on, alongside the presumable other media properties they’ll put out over the next several years.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete 4K is already up for pre-order via Amazon (Editor’s note: affiliate link), and other retailers.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on PlayStation 4, with console exclusivity ending April 4th, 2021. In case you missed it, you can find our review here. The game’s PS5 port, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, launches June 10th on PlayStation 5.
