Kojima Products will probably announce their next game “quite soon,” that is according to studio art director Yoji Shinkawa.
The news comes via an interview with Shinkawa and Al Hub (via VGC), where the creator was asked if he could share any details on their next game after their debut title, Death Stranding.
“Well yeah, I am doing something, for sure, and I could tell you probably that we can announce it quite soon,” said Shinkawa. Both Shinkawa and Hideo Kojima have been collaborators on games for a long time, where Shinkawa would offer character and mecha designs for Kojima’s Metal Gear franchise.
Back in October 2020 we saw Kojima Productions was hiring a lot of new staff for whatever their next game project is. In total they were looking to hire at least 25 staff with professional level talent for their Tokyo studio.
Kojima previously talked up his interest in making a horror game, which probably stems from the ill-fated Silent Hills and P.T. (Playable Teaser) demo. The game was unfortunately cancelled in 2015 by Konami. Soon after the situation rapidly deteriorated [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] ultimately leading to Kojima leaving Konami, and forming Kojima Productions.
Later, Kojima also expressed interest to collaborate with Uzumaki author Junji Ito. While this offer was made casually, the language barrier made many believe it was a serious offer. Ito later apologized for getting people’s hopes up.
We’ll keep you guys posted with whatever Kojima Productions’ next title ends up becoming.
