Animal Crossing: New Horizons Build-A-Bear Collection Coming Soon

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Build-A-Bear

Build-A-Bear have announced they will be releasing a collection of Animal Crossing: New Horizons themed teddy bears.

At this stage, only a mailing list for US and UK residents is available; for more information when the new teddy bears will be available. Looking how they handled the Pokemon brand and others, we can get some idea of what we might expect.

The teddy bears (almost certainly to be based off popular villagers) may come with alternative clothes, or with alternate clothes available for purchase. There may also be small accessories for the villager to hold, such as fruit or tools. These fruit may even smell like the real deal.

While some teddy bears do feature sound chips, this may be more complicated for the villagers. The Animal Crossing villager language is actually each letter or character being said quickly. This means Animal Crossing villagers in Japanese games say something different to those in English or other version of the game.

While previous sound chips have different recordings for different regions, there may be some temptation to keep the sound chip as one “language”- as it can be nigh-indecipherable without accompanying text. The sound clips may also be various sound effects from the game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to be the game championed as the reason for Nintendo’s recent successes. The game sold 1.8 million physical units in its first three days on sale in Japan (making it the best opening week for a Nintendo Switch game), and analysts later claimed the game sold 5 million digital copies over March 2020 (more than any other console game in history).

Later it was revealed the game sold 11.77 million units in its first 11 days on sale, and 13.4 million in its first six weeks. In mid-May it had become the fastest selling Nintendo Switch game in Japan. It later became the best selling game in Japan’s first half of 2020, with over an estimated 5 million physical copies sold.

The game would later sell over 5.6 million units in Asia by August 2020, as well as outselling Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver in Japan. This made it the second best selling game in Japan of all time.

The game would later sell over 22 million units worldwide by June 2020, 26.04 million units by November 2020, and 31.18 million units by February 2021.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently available on Nintendo Switch.
